Buckingham Palace is the residence and administrative headquarters of the United Kingdom Monarchy. Since the opening of the palace is during the summer, I could not get a glimpse of the gallery view. But still I was able to walk around the palace and also witness the Queen Victoria Memorial which is just opposite to the Buckingham Palace. The place is bit crowded, but there are quiet areas where you can sit, relax and also take some snacks. There is no ticket charges for roaming around the palace and its surroundings. Best time to visit would be mornings and late evenings. It is located in West Minister. Get down at the same station in Tube Train. Built in the 18th century, the palace stands as an example of architectural brilliance during the period.

Originally known as Buckingham House, the building at the core of today’s palace was a large townhouse built for the Duke of Buckingham in 1703 on a site that had been in private ownership for at least 150 years. It was acquired by King George III in 1761 as a private residence for Queen Charlotte and became known as The Queen’s House. During the 19th century it was enlarged, principally by architects John Nash and Edward Blore, who constructed three wings around a central courtyard. Buckingham Palace became the London residence of the British monarch on the accession of Queen Victoria in 1837.
