A lesser-known pristine destination situated in the outskirts of the capital city, Thiruvananthapuram is the beautiful Vellanikkal Para. This is a 5-acre rock bed hillock, is located near Madavoorpara in Pothencode. A visit to this tranquil beauty will definitely offer you an escape from the hum-drum of routine mundane life.
Vellanikkal Para is located near Venjarammoodu in Pothencode. The way to the rock is covered with rubber plantations and the drive is a good one if you are going by bike or car. The road is well tarred(As of June 2021) and the drive through the greenery is a pleasing one.
We reached the rock by car at around 5 pm in the evening planning to watch the sunset from the top. However it was bit cloudy and we could not get a glimpse of the sunset view.
There are multiple viewpoints in the hill station and a cool breeze is always there around the place which makes it more special. However an issue we have seen is the improper waste management, which could be resolved and in turn make the place one of the top 5 tourist places in Trivandrum.
The place is famous for the hilltop views and greenery all around. One can get a glimpse of the Arabian sea on one side. The watch tower is also a great place to enjoy the sunset. We really enjoyed the view atop the watchtower. It is mesmerizing. The view is picture perfect as the sun touches the horizon.
The Aayiravalli temple on top of the hill station is open only on specific day of the week. The main idol is Lord Shiva.

How to reach The place is hardly an hour drive from Trivandrum city and around 20-30 minutes drive from Kazhakkoottam and Technopark.
