Vellayani Lake is the largest lake in Trivandrum City. It one of the less known hidden treasures in the beautiful city of Trivandrum. Vellayani Lake (Punchakkari wetland) is a natural beauty. A very good place to spend time during an evening or a weekend, be it be with your family or with your friends. This is one of the best places in Trivandrum to enjoy the sunset and sit near the windy lake side.
Vellayani Lake and Punchakkari are situated at around 6km from Kovalam beach and around 9km from Trivandrum central railway station. So some people do visit Vellayani Lake after visiting Kovalam. But it is very less popular among tourists.
The main beauty of this place is the lotus pond, the spinach cultivation, fishing, etc. Boating facilities are also available to Venganoor area. Pedal boats are mostly available. Vellayani Devi temple is a famous Bhadra Kali temple near to this place.
However, tourism is not much developed here and there are not many activities you can do. Also there are no large food joints near the area. Better to go there in your own car or cab and come back.
