Welcome back to Travel Techies. Our today’s destination is Thenmala Eco Tourism. Thenmala is a very known eco tourism destination and the first planned ecotourism destination in India. There are lots of activities in Thenmala that includes but not limited to leisure activities, adventure activities, trekking, boating and so on.

There are mainly 4 zones

  1. Leisure Zone
  2. Adventure Zone
  3. Deep Woods Zone
  4. Culture Zone

We have been to adventure zone before. So today we booked leisure zone and it costs Rupees 70 per person. Deep woods zone is for trekking. Leisure Zone is a small trek that can be enjoyed with family. Culture zone mainly consists of shops, butterfly park, children’s play area and musical fountain. Adventure zone is full of adventure activities like river crossing and all. Good place for a one day outing with family or friends.

About Thenmala

Thenmala is an ecotourism site in Kerala, a state in southwest India. It lies just north of the Thenmala Dam, which spans the Kallada River. The Elevated Walkway winds through a thick canopy of trees, home to many native birds. To the east, Pathimoonam Kannara Bridge is a 13-arched bridge along a mountain railway route. Farther east, the Palaruvi Falls cascade into a deep pool.

Thenmala is the first planned eco-tourism destination in India. The Thenmala Dam is an ecotourism destination in Kerala. The Dam, which impounds the largest reservoir in the state which was built under the Kallada Irrigation and Tree Crop development project. The construction of the Parappar Dam across the confluence of the Chenduruney, Kazhuthurutty and Kulathupuzha rivers has resulted in the creation of an artificial lake of about 26 Sq. Km. which spreads along the middle of the Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary. It is the largest irrigation project in Kerala.

Thenmala is derived from malayalam word “theen” means honey and “mala” means mountain. Thenmala was the shooting location for several Malayalam and Tamil movies including Adiverukal. Thenmala attracts foreign and domestic tourists with a host of attractions. Boating on the lake, a rope bridge, trekking, mountaineering, biking and a musical fountain
